Biscay and Ribadasella

I’d like to say our Biscay crossing was a breeze and we got the correct weather window but unfortunately we failed. 2 nights, 3 days in a washing machine with wave heights of 3 metres coming from all directions, including underneath. We learned pretty quicky that going slow was not the best plan. Like driving down a rocky road slowly, you would feel every pebble but going fast you only feel the big stuff. So we did, pretty much full sails and we flew along at 6 – 8 knots. The boat handled the seas admirably, the crew less so. Also we overfilled the diesel tanks, some spilled out into the bilges, the smell did not help our sea state. No engine though, sailed all the way at the speed of many antelopes.

The cook trying to make coffee in a washing machine.

We missed A Coruña because the wind was westerly and ended up going where the wind blew us. A great Asturian town called Ribadasella (Rib-bad-a-saya) with the nicest marina so far.

Drank my bottle of chateauneuf du pape my sister got me for my 60th that I’d been saving until we got to the north coast of Spain.

Bought some Asturian cider, saw some ace street art, the neolithic caves were closed – yippee, got soaked to the skin arriving AND leaving. Loved the place, we all said we’d move here tomorrow. Onwards.
